Once Again, A.O. Reed has found itself in the top 40 Mechanical Contractors in the country as reported by the Engineering News-Record. This is an incredible honor for A.O. Reed. We are proud to have made the list just by working solely in Southern California. Our mechanical team provided a design/build delivery method for the commercial HVAC and plumbing systems that was complete 6 months ahead of schedule and under the Navy’s original budget.
A.O. Reed & Co. was recognized by San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) for excellence in Energy Efficiency. Just two awards were granted out of several hundred Trade Professionals or Energy Service Contractors working in the SDG&E area. During the awards event, Nancy Privitt, Commercial & Industrial Technology Manager for SDG&E, stated that Reed was exclusively chosen for consistently providing “comprehensive energy savings solutions to the SDGE Non-Residential (Commercial, Industrial, Municipal) client base. A.O. Reed & Co. participated in building both buildings which received this award in 2012. Sanford Consortium for Regenerative Medicine in La Jolla, CA received the grand award for office or professional building. Palomar College Multi-Disciplinary Building also received the grand award for nonresidential education building.
Most people tend to envision HVAC/R as a “man’s career,” one that deals with intensive installs, compressor change-outs, and many other strength-oriented tasks. This is a common misconception. A.O. Reed Headquarters Wins EPA’s Energy Star Award
The A.O. Reed & Co. corporate headquarters has earned the Environmental Protection Agency’s prestigious Energy Star, the national symbol for superior energy efficiency and environmental protection. The building now rates in the top 25 percent of facilities nationwide.
“A.O. Reed & Co is pleased that its headquarters has received the EPA’s Energy Star in recognition of our energy efficiency efforts,” said Steve Andrade, A.O. Reed & Co. President and CEO. “As a nationally recognized leading mechanical and energy contractor in Southern California, we thought it was imperative to undergo a major retrofit prior to recommending our clients do the same. We retrofitted our HVAC systems, lighting systems, installed an energy management system, a cool roof, added 140kw photo-voltaic array to generate 67 percent of our electrical consumption, retrofitted our plumbing fixtures, and made a firm commitment to changing our culture while keeping our nearly 100-year-old traditions intact.”
The Energy Star plaque follows the recent environmental recognition in which San Diego Gas & Electric Co. selected A.O. Reed & Co. as the 2010 Energy Showcase Award winners.
“Comprehensive energy savings solutions and leveraging SDG&E incentives is now part of their culture,” said Hal Snyder, vice president of customer solutions for SDG&E, during the awards luncheon. “A.O. Reed & Co. walked the talk by investing in substantial sustainable energy saving retrofits to their own buildings.”
Contracting Business has recently named A.O. Reed 2007 Commercial Contractor Of The Year. This prestigious award is given to one contractor each year nationwide. A.O. The field of contractors was narrowed to four general contractors who were asked to put their best ideas forward. The four generals and their teams were then asked to come up with the preliminary designs, with the winner being the team that provided the best design as well as the best value, including building size, amenities, and cost. One of the general contractors, Erickson-Hall Construction Co., decided the mechanical system would be best designed by a local San Diego contracting firm. Read the complete article.
