The Camp Pendleton Naval Hospital replacement project is one of the largest Recovery Act projects within the Department of Defense and plays a critical role for the support and care of the local military families in the Camp Pendleton area.
This hospital is 500,000 sq. ft., 4 stories high + mechanical penthouses. As a full service hospital it includes inpatient, outpatient, surgical suites, emergency rooms, labor/delivery, dentistry, othamology, medical offices, kitchen/ cafeteria, and a central plant. Included with the hospital is a 1,500 space, multi-level parting structure, surface parking, side development and associated supporting facilities.

The Verenium was a Design Assist project built to accommodate the enzyme discovery research and development labs, molecular diversity, product technical support and quality control.
This new facility consisted of 42,000 s.f. of 2 levels of office space, 1 level of lab facilities and a basement.
A.O. Reed’s scope of work included HVAC, Plumbing and process systems. We also added capacity to the existing central plant, provided steam boilers, FCU’s, Phoenix Controls, DDC System, vacuum, compressed air, deionized water, as well as clean in place and culinary steam.

This two story above grade forensic laboratory plus basement with autopsy & necropsy facilities has a total of 90,710 sq. ft. The basement has disposal capabilities to handle necropsy waste, decontamination equipment together with plumbing waste from the BSL-3.
The structure also contains a bereavement center, classrooms and electronic touchscreens at exam stations.
Three rooftop air handlers and manufactured exhaust plenum were installed for lab exhaust. Related Central Plant construction was also performed concurrently with this construction project.
The Medical Examiners Office & Lab achieved LEED Gold.

This four-story, 146,000 Sq. Ft. stem cell research facility contains research areas, administrative areas, a 16,000 Sq. Ft. vivarium and an enclosed area for observing plant and animal life.
The consortium was a joint effort of the University of California, San Diego, the Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute, The Salk Institute for Biological Studies and the Scripps Research Institute.
A.O. Reed’s contribution included the installation of 166 chilled beams, 406 Phoenix valves, a 1000 ton central plant and all laboratory process piping.
This $115 million dollar project was a Design-Assist. REVIT modeling was required and the project has LEED Gold certification.

The new Rady Children’s Hospital Acute Care Tower is a $260 Million dollar, 279,000 square foot project. There are 442 beds including 84 medical-surgical beds, a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and a cancer center, 16 operating rooms, 28 bed hematology and oncology unit and a 10 bed bone marrow transplant intensive care unit.
A.O. Reed was responsible for installing 21 air handling units, 37 exhaust fans, 67 fan coil units, 10 humidifiers, 3 chillers and 3 cooling towers. Also included in the project was plumbing, water, medical gas, HHW/CHW piping, steam/condensate, HTHW piping and all HVAC duct systems.

The new 315,000 s.f. Sharp Hospital Expansion features a seven-story tower, 302 patient beds, along with shell space for an additional 32 beds. The tower includes 128 AC beds, 126 IMCU beds and 48 ICU beds as well as 10 operating rooms and a recovery suite. A complete emergency room department, new hospital entrance and lobby, and administrative department complete the new tower.
Renovation of the existing adjacent structure combined with central plant upgrades and substantial infrastructure improvements have resulted in a total campus upgrade.
This competitive bid project, includes OSHPD (Office of Statewide Health Planning & Development) approved construction. The facility is a structural steel frame with a curtain wall, metal panel and precast exteriors.
A.O. Reed provided the complete HVAC and plumbing upgrades and distribution to serve the new tower.

Facility includes clinical space for primary and specialty care services. Specialty services include allergy, hematology and oncology, orthopedic PT, pulmonary medicine, and urology. Our systems included plumbing and HVAC.
