St. Joseph Medical Center, Burbank
Hospitals and Laboratories
Installed a complete HVAC and plumbing system in the new hospital tower and constructed a new central plant to serve both the existing hospital and the tower. The five-story plus basement hospital tower has 120 beds, intensive-care unit, radiology, cardiovascular and outpatient services. The new central plant houses two 500-horsepower boilers and a 1,170-ton chiller. The plant includes a feedwater system, deaerator, condensate return and chemical treatment systems. We also installed a new medical air system. New underground steam, chilled water and medical gas lines connecting the old and new structures were also part of our contract. Once the new central plant was completed, we removed the boilers and feedwater system from the old central plant.
J & D Labs
Hospitals and Laboratories
Furnished and installed mechanical systems for a vitamin manufacturing facility including kathabar unit, 60 ton air cooler recip chiller, 1,083 MBH hot water boiler, 2 pumps, 1 AH totaling 2,900 cfm and 1 FE. Plumbing included domestic water, waste & vent, DI water, natural gas, and industrial water.
UCI Social Sciences Buildings
A.O. Reed & Co. was resposible for the plumbing, Piping and HVAC on this multiple building educational complex. The project involved integrating the four pipe HVAC system for each of the three separate structures into the main campus utility lines. The scheduling presented a challenge to coordinate all three buildings being constructed simultaneously. Our workmanship, throughout the building in each discipline was continuously praised by the University’s building inspectors.
The total project consisted of over 148,000 square feet and included clean labs and classrooms. The complexities of the project involved setting multiple air handlers in the extremely tight working space of the penthouse equipment rooms. Our ability to act as a single sorce was critical for the coordination of multiple tades involved in the equipment rooms.
La Posta Casino
This project was a 20,000 square foot casino building with 349 slot machines and restaurants.
UC Irvine Surge Building
This project includes a 4-story, 62,000 sq. ft. office building to accommodate the University’s expanding staff. It also includes a new parking structure. Our scope of work includes Design-Build of both the HVAC and plumbing systems.
UC Irvine CSU-3
A.O. Reed’s scope of work included the Design-Build plumbing for a computer science facility. This project consisted of a 6-story, 123,000 sq. ft. office building and a 2-story, 23,000 sq. ft. classroom building.
A.O. Reed installed all plumbing, heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems. Because the building has two structures (a 27-story high-rise and a connecting 3-story structure) which are seismically independent of each other, all interconnecting piping and ventilating duct systems required special seismic vibration isolation. All sinks on the first and second floors of the high-rise and those in the 3-story structure are connected to a sewage ejection system. Eight duplex sump pumps were installed to remove ground water caused by underground parking and floor levels. Another unique feature was the installation of two 17′ exhaust fans, the largest ever installed in San Diego. These fans are used to exhaust the carbon monoxide fumes from the parking structure.
First Interstate Bank (Currently Wells Fargo)
562,000 sq. ft. office building, 2-700 ton chillers, 4.6 MBTU boiler, 24 air handlers totaling 1.2 million CFM, 4 level UG parking. We installed the plumbing, HVAC, and tenant improvement systems. The mechanical system involved installation of a 4.6 million BTU boiler, two 700-ton centrifugal chillers, a cooling tower and air distribution.
