About:

A.O. Reed & Co. was the sole source mechanical contractor for this multipurpose educational facility. The project involved a central plant located in a mechanical penthouse including two 260 ton chillers, boilers and a central station air handling units. The complex environmental control for the library portion of the building, along with the coordination of the plumbing, piping and sheetmetal trades throughout the building presented a challenging project. The coordination work involved in working with McCarthy and the rest of the construction team was key to the success of the project.

About:

  • Library
  • Central Plant

Working closely with the owner-operator Energy Factors, Inc., we replaced the college’s old solar system with a modern, one-engine co-generation system. A.O. Reed installed mechanical piping and equipment, connecting the co-generation system with the main college plant and the campus swimming pool, which is heated by the system. Noise suppression was an important design consideration, as the plant is adjacent to the library building. A single-story systems building was constructed to house the generator. The system powers a 104-ton chiller to provide air conditioning for the community college.
