SeaWorld

A.O. Reed has undergone work at SeaWorld San Diego for many years. A.O. Reed has provided mechanical and plumbing systems for a wide range of attractions, exhibits, and support facilities across the park. Our work spans over multiple decades and includes new construction, system upgrades, and infrastructure improvements designed to meet the unique challenges of a high-profile marine park.

From major exhibits like the Killer Whale Exhibit and Penguin Encounter to large-scale infrastructure systems, A.O. Reed has delivered high-performance mechanical. Our contributions support life support systems, climate control, and comfort cooling across exhibits, theaters, and backstage areas.

Highlights of our scope include the Killer Whale Exhibit, which features a 12,000-square-foot whale pool. PE piping measuring up to 36 inches in diameter for saltwater filtration and ozone generation systems was included as well. The space required precise coordination due to extremely tight clearances. The space required precise coordination due to extremely tight clearances. A.O. Reed also installed 122-ton air-cooled chillers for the whale life support cooling system, along with four packaged units serving the viewing and support areas.

Mechanical systems were also integrated into immersive attractions like Motion Base Theaters I & II. These systems included HVAC systems, cooling towers, boilers, and hydraulic support for dynamic ride environments. Plumbing installations across these spaces supported roof drainage, sump systems, public restrooms, and sanitary services.

For the Penguin Encounter, our team provided direct expansion cooling systems essential for maintaining the icy habit, as well as air and water temperature control systems to meet the environmental needs of the animals. The project also included a 650-kW cogeneration plant and an absorption chiller to improve energy efficiency.

Additional projects include work on the Atlantis attraction, Bermuda Triangle, Manatee & Pinniped Exhibits, and Seal & Sea Otter Exhibit Addition. A.O. Reed also contributed to the Shark Encounter, Backstage with Shamu, the Clydesdale Exhibit, and mechanical systems for the House of Hospitality.

Each project was delivered with careful attention to animal welfare, guest experience, and operational efficiency. Through decades of collaboration, A.O. Reed has helped SeaWorld San Diego create and maintain world-class exhibits and entertainment spaces that continue to educate and inspire millions of visitors each year.
