Becton Dickinson TI
Initially contracted for the core and shell mechanical construction of the Torrey Heights campus, A.O. Reed was invited to construct the design-build tenant improvement project for Becton Dickinson. This 230,000 square-foot project takes up one of the buildings on the Torrey Heights campus. The project team consists of tk1sc as the mechanical engineer and Clark Construction/ CRB Builders as the joint venture general contractors. Working collaboratively with the project team has allowed us to fulfill the client’s and lab’s requirements.
Becton Dickinson wanted to consolidate their San Diego operations into one facility. The space at Torrey Heights campus is newly constructed and piqued their interest. The company focuses on research and development, COE antibody manufacturing, COE bead manufacturing, COE for stability studies, and new clinical & research product manufacturing.
To meet their research needs, the project constructed an ISO 8 certification clean room facility, which upgraded the air handlers for extra air filtration. The HVAC scope installed HEPA filtration at the air handlers, fume hoods, pressurization requirements, lyophilizer equipment, water-cooled cold rooms, and stainless-steel ductwork for the fume hood connections. The plumbing scope installed specialty gases, lab air, lab vacuum, ultra-high purity N2, N2, CO2 piping, O2 piping, LN2 piping, Argon piping, Helium piping, and RODI piping system.
The project has an 18-month schedule and was completed by November 2023. A.O. Reed enjoyed taking on this highly technical project. Installing systems used in a clean space requires a lot of team collaboration and technical expertise.
