Naval Undersea Rescue Training & Administrative Facility
The Naval Undersea Rescue Training & Administrative Facility project was a renovation project on Coronado’s Naval Base. A.O. Reed was granted security access to enter the base to perform mechanical renovations to the building. Originally the grounds hosted a building that was constructed in the 1970s. As time progressed, the building failed to meet codes and seismic requirements. Another issue that was presented to the military was the deployable Submarine Rescue Systems (SRS) are dispersed throughout the URC complex which are in open staging areas. This makes most of the SRS equipment exposed to the outside elements. When the military was planning the renovation project, they took into account that a storage space was needed for the SRS equipment. By storing the equipment properly, the military can preserve the physical condition of these assets and easily meet the URC maintenance requirements and costs.
The overall project reconfigured office spaces and provided a storage unit for the military assets. A.O. Reed was brought onboard to provide cost control and value engineering to the mechanical systems on the project. A.O. Reed was a key design assist partner on the Naval Under Sea Rescue Training and Administration Facility. An interesting feature on this project is that the new facility hosts a dive rescue pool used for military training.
A.O. Reed installed various systems that fed to the Operational Storage Building and the Administration building. Such systems included the rooftop package units, cassette style split systems, ducted split systems, ductless split systems, and exhaust fans. These systems provide air conditioning for the office, conference rooms, and training facilities. With the aid of the sheet metal and pipe fitting & plumbing shop, our field team was able to coordinate, fabricate, and install the ductwork and piping in an efficient manner.
The Naval Undersea Rescue Training and Administration Facility was completed in May 2022. A.O. Reed is proud to serve those who are serving our country every day. The renovated building is currently salvaging critical military training assets, and the upgraded facilities are housing an administrative place for the military to serve.
