Lane Field South Hotel
Lane Field South is an 18-story, 400-room luxury hotel built on San Diego’s waterfront. This project was developed by Portman Holdings, Lankford & Associates, and Hensel Phelps Development. This Intercontinental hotel will feature 33,000 square feet of ground-level restaurants and shops. The plans also included a rooftop bar and outdoor pool. The project also provides 23,000 square feet of ballrooms and meeting spaces, most of which will feature panoramic views of the San Diego Bay.
As a design build partner on the project, A.O. Reed provided innovative strategies for the plumbing and HVAC systems, which fit both the design criteria and budget for the hotel. Successfully blending these aspects played a major role in the success of the project.
The mechanical system is a variable refrigerant flow system (VFR) which takes advantage of the diversity of the loads in the building to maximize energy efficiency. The garage ventilation system was designed using a finite element analysis model to place and size the garage exhaust and sweeper fans.
The plumbing system is based around a multi-zone concept with domestic hot water boilers, storage tanks, and anti-scaling water filtration located on the roof to make the best use of limited space. There is also a full-service kitchen, 2 laundry rooms, 1 house and 1 guest, 8 restrooms, a pool shower, below grade ejector pumps, and a storm drain filter.
