Job Description :
A.O Reed & Co is seeking Pre-Construction and Construction Intern to join us for the 2026 Summer season in our Irwindale, California Office. We are seeking an intern that has a strong interest in pursuing a career in the Mechanical Contracting Industry. Our program will provide the fundamentals of HVAC and Plumbing Pre-Construction and Construction business requirements.

Essential Duties:

  • Analyze Requests for Proposals (RFPs) to determine project scope and specific requirements.

  • Provide accurate material quantities and perform detailed take-offs to support the bidding process.

  • Contact vendors to solicit quotes and perform scoping of subcontractor bids.

  • Participate in the development and review of shop drawings and project submittals.

  • Attend design and construction meetings and maintain records of proceedings and action items.

  • Process and track Requests for Information (RFIs) to ensure project clarity.

  • Support the buy-out process for major equipment and subcontractor agreements.

  • Gather documentation for Proposed Change Orders (PCOs) and monitor their status through completion.

  • Assist in the preparation and organization of final project close-out documentation.

Educational Background Requirements and Eligibility

The internship program is open to college students studying a relevant field of education (e.g., construction management, mechanical engineering, etc.) The student must possess a valid driver’s license and may be required to pass pre-employment drug screening if a project requires testing. The student must have completed at least 2 years of undergraduate coursework at an accredited college or university towards pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering or construction management. 

Required Competencies and Qualifications: 

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA

  • Good interpersonal abilities for working in a team environment

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to prioritize and take direction

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to self-motivate and work productively without supervision

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and AutoCAD Civil 3D a plus

  • Proactive approach/self-starter/takes initiative

  • Positive attitude/team player
