Reed is seeking a Mechanical (Sheet Metal/ Hydronic) Estimator to accurately determine the cost of mechanical projects, including HVAC, hydronic piping, and other mechanical systems. This person will collaborate with our sales team, engineers, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure projects are completed within budget and on schedule. A.O. Reed constructs various types of projects, including hospitals, laboratories, offices, hotels, and high-rise buildings. Using computer skills and onscreen Quick Pen is required. A.O. Qualifications:
High School Diploma
Must work in the construction industry for at least five years.
At least five years of experience estimating technical commercial construction projects, is preferred.
Detailed knowledge of HVAC and piping systems.
Proficient in Quick Pen.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
A team player who has strong communication skills, produces quality work, manages multiple tasks, and meets all deadlines.
Team player with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Works alongside and supports co-workers with enthusiasm.
Flexibility and willingness to learn the office operations at A.O. Reed.
Applicant must be detail-oriented.
Responsibilities:
Prepare project piping and/or mechanical estimates. Navigate in accordance with the scope of work and develop quantity take-offs. Determine manpower, equipment, materials, and subcontractor requirements.
Reviewing project documents: Analyzing drawings, specifications, and other documentation to understand the scope of work.
Preparing cost estimates: Developing detailed cost breakdowns for materials, labor, equipment, and other expenses.
Material take-offs: Utilizing estimating software Trimble Autobid for Sheet Metal and Hydronic piping. Plumbing is a plus.
Develop and apply labor factors based on-site conditions, work activity types, and historical performance data.
Sourcing materials and labor: Obtaining quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to determine the best pricing.
Obtain clarification of questions or conflicts that affect the estimate.
Work on constructability reviews.
Prepare cost studies utilizing historical data, statistical analysis, cost, and quantity comparisons.
Develop new techniques for piping and mechanical systems to meet the specific needs of the project.
Conduct bid review to finalize estimate, markup, and strategies.
Prepare pricing sheets, bid forms, and other proposal documents for in-house review and submittal.
Preparing proposals: Assembling final estimates with the Chief Estimator using Excel and Word documents.
Collaboration: Working with various teams, including project managers, engineers, and subcontractors, to ensure accurate cost assessments.
Staying current: Keeping up-to-date with industry trends, material costs, and construction techniques.
Maintaining records: Keeping accurate records of estimates, bids, and correspondence.
Assist with maintaining the estimating database.
Range: $75,000 - $125,000
