Torrey Heights Wins the 2025 American Architecture Award
The Torrey Heights project received the 2025 American Architecture Award from the Chicago Athenaeum and the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design, and Urban Studies.
The campus utilizes a nature-integrated, biophilic architectural design while preserving the essence of the surrounding environment. This 993,176 square-foot project includes three laboratory buildings, an amenities building, and a parking structure on campus. The project, which is set to achieve LEED Gold, provides jobs and research opportunities for the life sciences community in San Diego.
Not only did the project team provide an award-winning architectural design to support the life science development, but it also incorporated sustainable systems while meeting strict laboratory requirements. Seeking ways to consistently deliver energy and cost savings, A.O. Reed worked with the project team to install mechanical equipment and systems to align with the project’s goal. This allowed the team to maximize efficiency for the laboratory systems while minimizing environmental impact.
Overall, A.O. Reed was proud of the continued work at Torrey Heights. A.O. Reed was invited back throughout the construction and tenant improvement phases on campus. Having repeated work with a client is the ultimate goal and measure of success at A.O. Reed. The project was one for the books, and we are proud to have constructed a project that achieved the American Architecture Award in 2025!
