Horton Plaza
Located in the heart of downtown San Diego, Horton Plaza was one time the place for creating lasting memories. In 1985, Horton Plaza housed restaurants, movie theatres, department stores, and much more. Many San Diegans remember Horton Plaza as a great way to spend their day or evening in downtown. Over the years, the bustling campus soon turned into a ghost town. Stockdale Capital Partners purchased the property in 2018 with a mission to redevelop the campus to its full potential. Along with reviving the campus, the project will have another purpose in mind, to think green! The owner will re-use and develop plans to implement an eco-friendly way of building the project. Currently, Horton Plaza Campus is pursing Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certification, and WELL Platinum certification through the U.S. Green Building Council. A.O. Reed was brought on board to help bring the client’s vision into a reality.
Overall, the project consisted of 1,400,000 square feet. The property will house office spaces for tech firms as well as restaurants and retail places for the public. Once completed, it is estimated to give 4,000 San Diegans work opportunities at the campus.
A.O. Reed was awarded the mechanical and plumbing scopes on this design assist project. On campus, A.O. Reed assisted the design and constructed the central plant. The central plant included two 1,200 ton chillers, a 200 ton air cooled chiller, CHW pumps, cooling towers, CDW pumps, a boiler, HHW pumps, and controls. We are heavily involved in building labs/office spaces as well as various department stores. In these buildings, we are providing air handlers, water source heat pumps, fan coils, exhaust fans, supply fans, and other specialized systems. As for the plumbing, each building included water closets, urinals, LAV, mop sinks, drinking fountains, hose bibs, floor drains, storm drains, backflow preventers, water heaters, domestic CW/HW, waste & vent, and condensate. We have also provided lab process systems for future build-out.
The Horton Plaza Campus’s estimated completion is scheduled for Spring 2023.
