Emerson-Bandini Elementary School
The Emerson-Bandini Elementary School was part of the San Diego Unified School District redevelopment plan in 2019. The 60,000 square-foot project renovated one existing structure and constructed four new buildings. The school understands most of its students are not fluent in English. In response, the school has created literature and mathematical programs for the students to grow their fluency in English. The school’s mission is to give students the right tools to succeed once graduating from Emerson. The school needed to restructure its campus to provide modernized systems for the students and faculty.
The project provided new classrooms, restrooms, support spaces, administrative offices, playgrounds, kitchen, a lunch canopy, solar panels, site structures, and on-site parking. The mechanical scope included individual rooftop gas/electric package AC units with all associated ductwork and air distribution. We also installed exhaust fans, a ductless split system, and associated refrigerant piping. As for the plumbing, the A.O. Reed team provided all above and below-grade domestic water piping, condensate piping, above and below-grade sewer and storm drain piping, natural gas piping, and various plumbing fixtures. We also installed water heaters, expansion tanks, circulation pumps, thermostatic mixing valves, trap primers, water hammer arrestors, garbage disposers, and grease-in.
The project duration took 27 months and was completed on December 1st, 2021. Now, the Emerson Bandini school has a campus with updated systems, additional education spaces, and modern building amenities for the students to succeed. We are proud to complete another great project through the San Diego Unified School District redevelopment plan.
