San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office
The San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office was a 90,710 square-foot project. This new building provided two stories with a forensic laboratory and basement. The forensic laboratory includes autopsy and necropsy facilities. The basement has disposal capability to handle necropsy waste, decontamination equipment, and plumbing waste from the BSL-3 laboratory. The structure contains a bereavement center, classrooms, and state-of-the-art electronics at exam stations.
Our scope of work included the installation of rooftop air handlers and exhaust system. A.O. Reed tied chilled water from the existing central plant. We also provided heating hot water, steam, and air handler VAV systems. The plumbing scope included the installation of compressed air vacuum, deionized water, and standard plumbing fixtures.
As a design-assist partner, A.O. Reed worked with the client and general contractor to meet the strict standards constructing a BSL-3 laboratory. A.O. Reed is proud to have worked with the County of San Diego on this project. Overall, the project was completed in November 2010.
