Our Green Philosophy

At A.O. Reed, we take the lead in sustainability within the construction industry. We continuously seek to eliminate all types of waste, protect the environment, and increase operational efficiency while reducing costs. Based in Southern California, we appreciate our environment and will take all the necessary steps to preserve it for future generations.

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certification was formed by the Natural Resources Defense Council’s senior scientist Robert K. Watson in 1993. Since then, LEED has been one of the most sought-after certifications in construction. As we are transitioning into a more environmentally conscious society, gaining LEED Certification on jobs helps show A.O. Reed’s contribution into a more sustainable world.

There are four types of certification programs based on a point system: certified, silver, gold, and platinum. As the certification status increases, so do the number of points and level of requirements. To work on a LEED certified project, A.O. Reed would be a part of a team in efforts to achieve this high status in leadership and achievement. A.O. Reed would work with the architects to share and implement a vision in constructing a “green” project or building. Based off the architect’s drawings and plans, A.O. Reed can provide excellence in construction and performance within the HVAC, plumbing, and fabrication sectors of the project.

LEED Certification is a team effort involving all aspects of construction. As a company, we are excited to accept new challenges. A.O. Reed is proud of our past, present, and future involvement in LEED certified projects. LEED Certification is a globally recognized achievement, and as it becomes more of a need, there is an increased effort to get certified in construction. At A.O. Reed, we want to add our involvement to make sustainability a focus in the construction industry.

A.O. Reed & Co. has earned the highest honors from the Mechanical Service Contractors of America (MSCA). The MSCA STAR program is administered by the National ITC Corporation of Los Angeles, CA (NITC). The NITC is an internationally recognized third-party personnel certification agency. The NITC reviews contractor’s applications and awards MSCA STAR status to those that participate in a rigorous review of credentials. NITC also administers the UA STAR exam.

MSCA GreenSTAR Qualified Contractors are more than just committed to excellence. They’re continually devoted to environmental stewardship and energy cost savings.

The MSCA GreenSTAR was developed to advocate MSCA STAR leadership in sustainable mechanical services.
